Las Venus Custom Ludlow Sofa, theline.com.

ELLEDECOR.com : What practice you personally consider when searching for a sofa?

Morgan Wendelborn: Comfort! I spend a lot of time on my couch reading, working, lounging and having friends and family unit over. Information technology has to, start and foremost, be a place that makes everyone feel cozy—a place where a nap could happen at any moment. I as well look for versatility, this may seem less important in choosing large furniture items that define a room, but that's what really gives something a long life and helps ascertain personal way. Information technology's really important that the biggest detail in the room has a few moods and can adjust to you and your space whether you lot like fur pillows, or cashmere throws or if you lot have a natural flooring or a white one…it needs to be able to evolve with you.

ED: How did yous determine to buy the item sofa (that'southward pictured beneath) in your Soho showroom, The Apartment?

MW: Well nosotros (Vanessa Traina and Wendelborn) really started with our POV showtime and and then took inspiration from the bodily space. Our vision is to contextualize the modern, paired-back lifestyle in an elevated just practical style. So with that in mind, we looked to what actually embodies that for united states, updated but archetype shapes with a timeless and versatile colour palette. The Apartment by The Line is a Soho loft, so we wanted to juxtapose the thought of the blusterous, open up vibe with an intimate, richness in color and texture.

ED: Where did you discover it?

MW: It was a long process to notice the right slice, just once nosotros found it, information technology happened very fast. Las Venus, one of our vintage partners, has a like stunning, tufted sofa in their shop. I loved the shape and texture but wasn't sure the size was big enough for our space. Fortunately, this is the easiest sofa to customize and we decided to do 9 feet of it in rich, navy velvet with a deeper seat.

ED: What was it near this deep, rich blue?

I knew information technology would be a rich, nighttime neutral and it was going to be either navy or a charcoal. Because the space is so open and white with a natural flooring, we really wanted something rich and a little moody to make the room a cozier and more intimate.

ED: How of import is comfort and materials?

MW: Information technology's absolutely essential! Everything in the space and in our lifestyle has to exist practical and functional, that'southward what actually makes it modernistic and cool. It'southward aspirational, but also inviting and intimate.

ED: What sealed the deal for yous?

MW: Until I met this burrow, I'd say size of the doorway/window, but some other affair that is so amazing about this slice and its makers is that they can finish building it correct in your living room! And then, if it doesn't fit through the door, they will bring in the pieces and upholster information technology in front of y'all. Too, the pb fourth dimension is three weeks, which is unheard of for a custom sofa!
